1970 CHEVELLE Canada
Built Car for US (3500 units built approx)
Production date April 13,
1970
Purchased 12/15/05 out of
Melbourne Florida
Car arrived in Oregon on
December 28, 2005 on my 50th Birthday
Car has a 1969 396
non-matching motor with turbo 400 transmission
331 12 bolt rear end and
full SS gauge package (New information the rear end was not a 331 as
lead to believe.
Bucket seats with H handle
shifter and console.
This car is a original
paint code 17 (Rare Shadow Gray Color car) with 790 (ivory) interior. So
far this is the only factory documented Shadow Gray car I have found or
seen with this interior. I have been looking for 3 years.
Car is currently under
going a full frame off restoration using NOS parts .
When taking the car apart
the front fenders were welded to the car at the bottom of the fenders
instead of being bolted on. My son Chris had to cut the fenders off.
The
body will need left rear quarter replaced and new trunk floor pans put
in. The front inner fender wells still had GM of Canada on them with
the original sheet metal on the car.
Plans for this car are to
be able to take it to car shows, and drive it on nice days in the
summer. This car is not going to be a trailer queen.
Update 05/03/2007
The car was built
in Canada, and I found the strip of paper that was put inside of the
car under the back sheet with the options listed for the car. Had I
called George in Canada before I purchased the car he could have
told me if it was not a true SS before hand. I wished I had found
Team Chevelle web page before I started looking for a car. It has
been very educational. I have no regrets. This still is the only
Shadow Gray car that came with white interior that I know of and
anyone else so far. This car is not being done to be an investment,
but to have for fun and car shows. If it ends up being worth more
some day then that will be just a bonus. Again thanks for the great
job on all the parts you did. They look great on the car.
Had I knew what I now know, I probably
would have not purchased this car or offered a lot less. I’m still
having fun restoring this car. The pocket book is a lot lighter, but I
will finish the car. Attached is the completed frame as of last night.
The rims are out being sand blasted and the tires were ordered
yesterday. Once the rims are painted and tires mounted the frame will be
a roller.
